This article will show you 11 different objects that are 1 inch long.
Comparing the size of common items is a great way to figure out the size of something else that is similar in shape and dimensions.
For example, if you knew that a paperclip is 1 inch long, and 12 of them equal the same length of a ruler, then you know that ruler is 12 inches long.
I did some research to find a list of other items that are 1 inch long.
Did you know? 1 inch equals 25.4 millimeters or 2.54 centimeters.
- Paperclip
- Eraser
- Bottlecap
- Adult thumb from knuckle
- Quarter

- Canadian $1 coin diameter

2. Eraser
The common eraser has been used for many years. They are made out of rubber and their purpose is to rub out mistakes when written on a piece of paper.
Erasers are available in many different shapes and sizes and can be found on the end of a pencil or as a stand alone eraser.

The bottle cap will be threaded in order to tighten onto the properly sized bottle.
Like many things, bottle caps can be found in a variety of sizes.
If you are looking for a 1-inch cap, measure across the top from one edge to the other to see its diameter.
1 inch bottle caps are very common and easy to find.

4. Adult thumb from the knuckle
If you look at an adult thumb, the length from the knuckle to the thumb tip is normally right around 1 inch long.
The full length of an adult male thumb is around 2.75 inches and female thumbs are 2.5 inches long.
5. USA Quarter
The USA quarter coin has been in circulation since 1796 and has the profile of George Washington on one side.
The quarter or 25 cent coin, is equal to a quarter dollar. So 4 of these coins equal 1 dollar.
If you measure the diameter of the USA quarter coin, it will equal 0.955 inches which is just shy of 1 inch long.

6. 2.5 Staples
Staples are an item used to bind or connect things together. Like paper. A staple has 2 prongs usually made out of metal and is very effective.
Staples are normally used with a stapler, but larger staples can also be used with a hammer or a staple gun for larger jobs in the construction industry.
The common staple used in homes and schools is around 2 centimeters long. If you had 2 and a half staples together, they would equal closer to 1 inch long.
7. 3 CD cases
A compact disc or CD, uses light to play music or retrieve and show data stored on a computer. The first CD was released in 1982 by Philips and Sony and branded as a Digital audio compact disc.
CD’s are not as popular today as they used to be as there are so many more options available like storing music in the cloud and on a wireless device.
A CD case is used to hold and protect the CD. These cases are made of plastic and are 0.39 inches thick. If you were to stack 3 of these cases together, they would equal just over 1 inch tall or 1 inch long if placed on their side.

8. Sewing pin
If you are into sewing, you know that a sewing pin is a valuable tool that comes in handy. The sewing pin is used to hold pieces of fabric together, hold seams, prior to sewing.
There are different types of sewing pins and they are not all the same size. But in general, it is common for people to use a pin that is 1 inch long.
9. Bolt
A bolt is a fastener that is used to connect 2 or more parts and normally used with a threaded nut to tighten together.
