Depending on what games you enjoy playing, you can add many different tables to your home or business.
However, some games tables are surprisingly large, so it’s helpful to know the dimensions and weights of various tables before you choose which ones you want to incorporate into a space.
Pool Tables
Pool tables are one of the most classic and popular choices for game tables.
They’re a fantastic option for a small group of friends, and they also work well in a family setting, as one, two, or four people can play pool at a time.
Pool tables are available in a few different sizes, but there are two common regulation sizes.
Pool tables of regulation size are either 8 or 9 feet long. A table that’s 9 feet long is 4.5 feet wide, and a table that’s 8 feet long is 4 feet wide.
Pool tables used for tournament play are even larger, measuring 12 feet long and 6 feet wide.
All standard pool tables should be between 29.25 and 31 inches tall, and the rail should be between 4 and 7.5 inches tall.

Exactly how much a pool table weighs can vary, as each table is made differently. Some tables are designed with lightweight frames, while others are much bulkier.
Some also have slate tops, which can add a great deal of weight. Most regulation-sized pool tables weigh around 700 pounds, but some tables are as light as 250 pounds, while other tables can weigh as much as 1,100 pounds.
Pool tables with larger dimensions, such as ones that measure 12 feet long, can weigh as much as 2,500 pounds.
Mini Billiards Tables
If you don’t have room for a full pool table, you might want to consider a mini billiards table. These tables are available in a wide range of sizes.
For example, some people consider standard 8- and 9-foot long pool tables to be ‘mini’ billiards tables, as they’re smaller than the 12-foot long tournament table.
Some mini billiards tables are small enough to be carried around and used on the floor or another tabletop.
Dimensions for these tables also vary, but most are about 20 inches long, 12.5 inches wide, and 3.5 to 4 inches tall. These tiny tables usually weigh less than 6 pounds.
Ping Pong Tables
For a more energetic gaming option, ping pong, also known as table tennis, is a great option. Ping-pong tables also fold up, so they’re relatively easy to store.
A standard ping pong table is 9 feet long, 5 feet wide, and 2.5 feet tall. These tables are much slimmer in design than a pool table, so they weigh considerably less, but quality ping pong tables can still be quite sturdy, which adds weight.
Most ping pong tables weigh between 50 and 200 pounds.
Foosball Tables
Foosball tables are a way for two to six players to mimic the fast-paced excitement of a team sport.
These tables are also relatively compact. Foosball tables vary a bit in size, but most standard tables are 5 feet long, 2.5 feet wide, and about 3 feet tall.
How much a foosball table weighs depends on its construction. For example, some tables have hollow rods, while others feature rods that are solid. Solid rods will, of course, be much heavier.
Most standard foosball tables weigh between 100 and 120 pounds, but some can weigh as much as 400 pounds. Tournament foosball tables usually weigh about 230 pounds.
Air Hockey Tables
Designed to mimic ice hockey on a much smaller scale, air hockey utilizes small disks and small, handheld paddles called strikers, with which players can score goals.
A standard air hockey table is 8 feet long and 6 feet wide, and these tables usually stand between 2.5 and 3 feet tall.
Some air hockey tables are made of plastic, while others utilize steel or wood in their construction. Plastic tables are much lighter.
Air hockey tables that mostly utilize a plastic construction can weigh as little as 160 pounds, while other types of air hockey tables can weigh as much as 350 pounds.
Chess Tables
Chess tables are an excellent addition to a living room or gaming area because they’re relatively small and can double as a checkers table or be used for other board games.
Chess tables can be made in many different. A standard chessboard is a 21-inch square, so as long as the table can accommodate a board or built-in board of this size, with some extra room at the sides of the table to place pieces that are no longer in play, you can use the table as a chess table.
However, regulation-size chess tables are 110 centimeters or just about 3.6 feet wide and 85 centimeters or around 2.8 feet long. The table should stand about 2.5 feet off the floor.
Because chess tables can be made in so many sizes and from so many materials, it’s hard to estimate how much one might weigh.
A lightweight table could weigh as little as 35 pounds, while a larger, sturdier, or more solid table could weigh as much as 200 or 300 pounds.
Shuffleboard Tables
Shuffleboard is usually played on the ground using an open space, but smaller versions that are similar to air hockey can be played on a table.
Shuffleboard tables are some of the largest tables on this list, but they’re also some of the narrowest, so you may find that you can fit a shuffleboard table into your space even if you don’t have much room.
A standard shuffleboard table is 22 feet long but only 20 inches wide. Most shuffleboard tables are between 2.5 and 3.5 feet tall.
Shuffleboard tables can weigh anywhere from 300 to 800 pounds.
Card Tables
Any table can be a card table as long as you have enough room to play. However, a standard card table is usually a 2-foot 10-inch square.
Larger card tables might be a 3-foot or even a 3-foot 2-inch square. Many card tables are circular and have a diameter between 34 and 38 inches. Most card tables are 27 to 30 inches tall.
Card tables are generally lightweight and can weigh as little as 10 pounds, although card tables made of wood can weigh 100 pounds or more.
