Will A Dryer Fit In An SUV? (The Right Answer)

If you recently purchased a new dryer or perhaps moving a dryer from one location to another, you may be wondering if it will fit into an SUV.

Many people own SUVs and they are commonly used to move certain appliances.

But not all appliances will fit inside an SUV. It will depend on the size of the appliance and the space available inside the SUV.

As both dryers and SUVs can be different in size, determining if a dryer will fit into an SUV can be difficult.

Once you know the dimensions of the dryer itself and the dimensions of the space inside the SUV, you can decide if the dryer will fit.

Will a dryer fit into an SUV?

For the most part, yes a dryer will fit into the back of an SUV. Many dryers are small and compact often used in apartments and smaller spaces. These will likely fit in most SUV’s without issue. Large dryers may not fit and will need to be measured to make sure.

Most dryers will not fit inside an SUV standing upright. Most likely it will need to lay on its back or side as the height of the dryer will be larger than the width.

Always ensure to know the measurements of both the dryer and the SUV ahead of time. Don’t assume that it will fit. It can not only be time-consuming, but frustrating and costly to make that assumption.

What are the dimensions of an SUV cargo space?

Most SUV’s have rear seats that will fold flat to provide more cargo space. With the seats upright in the normal position, there may not be enough room for a dryer to fit. But this will depend on the make and model of the SUV. It’s likely that the seats will need to be folded down.

The average dimensions for cargo space in an SUV are 48 inches wide x 34 inches long x 33 inches tall. These numbers are based on the rear seats being upright. With the seats folded down, the length available increases to around 62 inches.

Will a dryer fit in my car?

Depending on the type of car that you own, a dryer may fit. Most cars that have a hatchback will have enough space to fit a small or standard size dryer.

You may have to remove the packaging if you are moving a new dryer to ensure it will fit. A car that is not a hatchback most likely can not fit a dryer.

If you have a 4 door car, chances of it fitting will be slim. Plus the damage you could cause to the car and dryer is not worth the effort.

How do I transport a dryer on its side?

As mentioned, if you are transporting a dryer in an SUV, you will probably need to lay it on its side or back as some of them are too tall to stand upright.

If you need to lay a dryer on its side there are a few things to consider ahead of time.

You can transport a dryer on its back or side without causing harm to the dryer. Some people have said that it damages the dryer if you don’t transport it upright but that is not the case.

The exception is if you are transporting a unitized dryer, they should be not laid on its back or side. They need to be transported standing vertically.

Before placing the dryer into the SUV, ensure it is wrapped in blankets or something to protect it and the vehicle.

Ensure the power cord is taped to the dryer to prevent it from getting caught or damaged.

Use a dolly with straps to move the dryer to the back of the vehicle. It can help to place a piece of cardboard or a blanket between the dryer and the dolly to prevent scratches.

Make sure that you have help to load the dryer into the SUV as they can be very heavy and could cause injury if lifted by yourself.

Lift the dryer off the dolly onto its back or side and lay it carefully into the SUV. Ensure the dryer is slid forward enough to close the hatch. The corner of the dryer can hit the rear glass of the vehicle when the hatch is closed if the dryer isn’t pushed forward enough.
