Although they might seem to be very different sports, soccer and hockey actually have a lot in common. They’re both played on large fields, and the objective of the game is to get the ball or puck into the other team’s goal. They’re also both team sports.
However, there are a few differences when it comes to the size of a hockey rink compared to a soccer field.
How big is a hockey rink?
According to the National Hockey League (rule book page 5) and the American Hockey League, a hockey rink of regulation size must be 200 feet long and 85 feet wide, with a goal area at each end.
This provides enough room for the six players on each team, which includes five players moving around the ice and one goalie for each side. There are four end zone face-off areas, positioned to the right and left ahead of each goal, and these areas, which are circular, have a diameter of 30 feet.
Each of the team’s end zones is 60 feet wide, and there is a 60-foot section in the middle of the rink that’s divided into two equal areas, each being 30 feet in length.

A soccer goal is much larger than a hockey goal. The goal itself is 8 yards or 24 feet wide, 2.33 yards or 8 feet tall, and has a depth of 4 yards or 12 feet. The area surrounding the goal is 24 yards or 72 feet wide and has a depth of 12 yards or 36 feet.
