If you are looking to buy a new computer monitor you should know that not all monitors are the same size and they can have different dimensions.
If a monitor is claiming to be 27 inches, this doesn’t mean that the actual dimensions are exactly 27 inches in width or height.
The number given to the size of the monitor is the length of the screen measured diagonally from corner to corner.
The actual width and height of the monitor will be different from the screen size.
This is very similar to how a TV is measured.
For example, a 65-inch TV will have a screen size measured diagonally of 65 inches but only have the dimensions of 58 inches wide x 32 inches tall.

27 Inch monitor dimensions
To accurately know the size of a monitor, you need to consider the width, height, and thickness.
Many 27-inch monitors will measure 24 inches wide x 17 inches tall. Thickness can range from 2 inches to 7 inches. This can vary for different brands. Other factors affecting the size of the monitor include the aspect ratio, bezel size, and trim size. Certain brands have different trim sizes which will affect the overall size of the monitor.

These dimensions are for the monitor only and do not include the stand.
With so many different types of stands available for monitors, it can be difficult to get an exact size. But on average, the size of a stand will add 4-6 inches to the height of the monitor.
Desk-style stands will add additional height depending on the brand you choose.
For example, the Acer 27-inch IPS 27-inch monitor has dimensions of 24.5 inches wide x 18 inches tall x 7.9 inches thick including the stand.

A 27-inch monitor is larger than a 24 inch.
If you measure the diagonal length of the screen for both monitors, you will see that the 27-inch monitor is larger by 3 inches.

A 24-inch monitor will be around 20 inches wide and 12 inches tall.
